Resell lab grown diamond

Martin Rapaport, the creator of the diamond price list The rapaport price list recently said:
“If you ever try to re-sell a synthetic diamond, you’re out of luck.
No one is buying them back.
Retailers are afraid to buy synthetic diamonds because their prices continue to fall.
Many consumers don’t realize this.”

Originally lab grown diamonds were sold at a reduced price in comparison to natural diamonds but they still carried a price. Depending on the size of the diamond, the discount was between 20-40% from natural diamonds.

Slowly more players got into the production and the price of the CVD diamonds went more and more down. In the past year the decline in price was extremely rapid and will probably continue to drop as all technology items did before – do you remember how much your first flat tv cost?

Some of the lab grown dealers must agree to rebuy according to the current market but we personally don’t know any in Singapore. To our knowledge some people deal exclusively with lab grown diamonds and they even don’t agree to take part of the resale lab grown market. We can only assume that this is because of the dropping value of these items.

If you are still keen on reselling your lab grown diamond the only solution we can think of is checking their current retail value and then offer a better price to a private customer. Otherwise we are not optimistic you can resell them. For this you will have to have a diamond certificate as a private customer will not buy without.

If you don’t have a diamond certificate you will have to certify your lab grown diamond before reselling it and this will bare additional cost. Not sure if its worth it honestly. Depending on the size and quality of your diamond.

If you don’t have to resell your lab grown diamond (financially speaking) we suggest you reuse it in a new piece of jewellery or give it as a nice present.
